Restoring LiveStrong’s Reputation with the Online Reputation Expert

Online Reputation Expert, Herman Tumurcuoglu was among the many reputation experts that the LiveStrong foundation contacted after news surfaced that Lance Armstrong was doping his whole career. In 2006, Floyd Landis won the Tour de France but the U.S Anti-Doping Agency was suspicious and found evidence of doping. Therefore, they stripped him of his 2006 title. That prompted an investigation into Armstrong who had surprisingly won 7 Tour de France titles after a long battle with testicular cancer and a bran tumor. So, after the Anti-Doping Agency caught him and he went through an honest and public interview with Oprah Winfrey shortly after, his foundation, LiveStrong, came into question. Would it’s reputation be destroyed because of it’s association with Armstrong?

Although Armstrong founded LiveStrong in 1996 and started it’s activity in 1997 for cancer patients and survivors after his battle, the foundation was directed by someone else after his scandal outbreak. The outbreak likely caused many individuals to be sceptical of where the money was going for the foundation and the authenticity and credibility of the organization. To elaborate, LiveStrong (although it may not be true) is guilty by association in the eye of the people. In this case, the people are those who donate and support the whole cause. The Online Reputation Expert had some of the following advice for the LiveStrong foundation:

Continue to do what they do – by changing their habits, procedures, and associating themselves with Armstrong explicitly is not necessary. By continuing to release their taxes, organize fundraisers and activities, the foundation will likely be able to maintain the same brand and image. News passes. Therefore, within a couple of months, another scandal will have surfaced in the news and LiveStrong’s association with Armstrong will not longer be the excitement of the media. To elaborate, Tumurcuoglu believed that they should not explicitly announce anything related to Armstrong. If they want the people to believe that he a separate entity, the foundation should let him do his own public relations and rebranding.
